After 15 years this logo is still at the centre of all Hexham towns signage and marketing materials.
As an integral element of its work, the Partnership commissioned r//evolution to undertake the development of a brand identity for the promotion of Hexham.
The r//evolution team undertook extensive stakeholder research and consultation in order to identify and develop a series of brand values for Hexham.
The outcome of these processes were the identification of the following core values:
The identity developed for Hexham is a visual and textual representation of its core values. The graphic symbol which appears in front of the word Hexham is based on Acca’s Cross. As Bishop of Hexham from 709, the cross which bears his name is a powerful icon for the town, and a fitting element of the brand identity. The word ‘Hexham’ is written in modern yet timeless hand drawn lettering.
The strong colour palette chosen for the brand identity reinforce the warm and welcoming nature of the town. The colours also underpin the dichotomy of the historic nature of much of the townscape which house a community and centre of economic activity which is forwardthinking and dynamic. The colours are, therefore rich and traditional, whilst also having a modern or timeless quality. In essence the brand identity is simple, whilst being inviting and timeless.
Hexham’s brand identity was initially created by r//evolution in 2003. Since that time, it has been in continuous use and is still very much in evidence across all marketing communications.
